frequently asked questions
Where exactly is The Laurels?
The Laurels resides within the Cavalry Barracks estate which sits in Lower Walmer, a short walk from the beach and Walmer Castle. It’s a private, gated community and one of the more extraordinary places to stay on the Kent coast – a piece of living military history, converted into beautiful homes in the early 2000s.
How far is the beach?
Walmer beach is a two-minute walk from the front door.
Who is The Laurels most suitable for?
The Laurels works beautifully for families, groups of friends and couples who want to be close to everything, but come home to somewhere genuinely peaceful.
- Families will love the location. Walmer’s paddling pool and Roman Landings adventure golf are a short stroll away, and the beach is practically on the doorstep for those long, unstructured days that holidays are made of.
- Groups of friends are well catered for too. Coffee spots dot the coastline, beach yoga at Hut 55 is five minutes away, and bike hire from the same spot means you can spend a whole day exploring the coastal path without getting back in the car. Deal’s restaurants, cafés and independent shops are a leisurely ten-minute walk along the seafront.
- Walkers couldn’t ask for a better starting point. The coastal path stretches in both directions — north to Deal and Sandwich, south through Kingsdown toward St Margaret’s Bay — with some of the best walking on the Kent coast right from the front door.
- And for everyone? There’s the beach. Always the beach.
The Cavalry Barracks estate itself adds something quietly special — wide open communal grounds, mature trees, a stillness that the seafront doesn’t always offer. It’s that rare combination: everything within reach, and a genuine sense of retreat when you return.
Is there parking at The Laurels?
Yes. The Laurels has its own private parking space within the estate.
What train station serves The Laurels?
The nearest station is Deal which is on the direct Southeastern high-speed line from London St Pancras — approximately 90 minutes. A short taxi ride connects the station to the property.
How far is The Laurels from Deal?
Deal is approximately a twenty minutes slow stroll along the coastal path or a five-minute drive — close enough for an evening out, far enough that Walmer feels entirely its own when you return.
