Tucked away on a farm in St Margaret’s, two French bakers are up long before you are. La Baguette d’Or is a proper artisan bakery: croissants, chocolatines, almond croissants, canelés, sourdough and baguettes, all baked fresh that morning. The flour comes from a farm nine miles down the road, and the cultured butter in the laminated pastries is from the Edinburgh Butter Company. You can taste the difference. Choose your items and the mornings you’d like them, and they’ll be delivered to your door in time for breakfast.

Afternoon tea with Afternoon Pause
Afternoon Pause is a French-inspired kitchen here in Kent, making beautifully presented afternoon tea boxes fresh to order. Delicate sandwiches, scones, patisserie, and that particular French attention to detail that makes it feel like an occasion rather than a snack. Order ahead and it can be waiting for you when you arrive. Or, if you’re celebrating something during your stay, choose the day and time you’d like it delivered to the cottage. Gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options are available.

Cakes with Eat & Mess
If there’s a birthday or anniversary to mark during your stay, Eat & Mess is the answer. A small, award-winning bakery, making everything with natural ingredients sourced locally wherever possible. Their celebration cakes can be personalised with an inscription, or made entirely bespoke if you have a design in mind. Any cake can be made gluten free or vegan at no extra cost, and colours can be matched to whatever you’re planning. If a whole cake feels like a lot, there are brownie trays, mini cake selections and fruit tarts too.
