Holiday Cottages in Walmer, Kent
A quiet, unhurried seaside village with a beautiful promenade, a Tudor castle and one of the best beach cafés on the Kent coast — right next door to Deal
Walmer sits just south of Deal along the Kent coastline and has a character entirely its own. Where Deal has the energy of a town that knows it’s having a moment, Walmer has something quieter and perhaps more lasting. A long shingle beach, a promenade that’s genuinely good for walking, a village green that hosts brass bands and community events throughout the summer, and Walmer Castle sitting at the edge of it all. It’s the kind of place where guests arrive expecting a base and leave having fallen for the place itself. The beach yoga, the paddling pool that children treat as their personal territory, the coastal path heading south towards Kingsdown with the sea opening out ahead. And Deal, with all its restaurants, galleries and independent shops, just a fifteen-minute walk along the seafront. Our holiday cottage in Walmer puts you right in the middle of it.

- Walmer Castle boats eight acres of award-winning gardens that become genuinely spectacular in spring. The wellbeing programme here runs year-round; Yoga, Sunday Tai Chi, Pilates, meditation and monthly sound baths. One of the most unusual and lovely things to do on this coastline.
- Hut 55 sits on Walmer beach and has become a beloved institution. Coffee, homemade cake, bike hire and beach yoga. The kind of place that becomes the focal point of a holiday without anyone planning it that way.
- Roman Landings Adventure Golf on Walmer Green is an 18-hole themed course with a café, a kart track and the paddling pool right next door. Families with children will find this stretch of the green keeps everyone occupied for an entire morning.
- Deal parkrun takes place every Saturday morning on Walmer Green — free, friendly and one of the most scenic 5k routes in the county.

- Lunch: Stroll north into Deal along the seafront. Deal Pier Kitchen, 81 Beach Street or simply Filbert’s Deli for provisions to take back to the beach.
- Afternoon. Roman Landings adventure golf if there are children involved, or back to the cottage with a book and no particular agenda. For those who like a little pamper, Skinlab for the best facial on the Kent coastline.
- Evening: Simple fish at chips from Walmer chip shop, then across the road to eat them on the beach, then onto The Lighthouse for a little evening nightcap.
